Overview
A leading provider of electrical testing, commissioning, and power systems services is seeking a SCADA Technician to support transmission and distribution infrastructure projects across Northern Indiana.
This role focuses on substation automation, real-time control systems, and SCADA integration. The ideal candidate brings a blend of electrical substation experience and industrial networking / controls expertise, with the ability to support commissioning teams and operate independently in the field.
This position supports critical grid infrastructure and plays a direct role in system reliability and modernization.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA & Controls Integration
Install, configure, and maintain SCADA systems in substation environments
Interface RTUs, PLCs, and IEDs with SCADA platforms
Perform point-to-point checkout and signal validation
Support system upgrades, expansions, and cutovers
Communications & Networking
Configure and troubleshoot protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850)
Work with fiber, Ethernet switches, serial comms, and radio systems
Validate communication between field devices and control centers
Substation & Commissioning Support
Assist with commissioning of substation automation systems
Coordinate with relay technicians and engineers during energization
Interpret one-lines, wiring diagrams, and communication schematics
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
Diagnose SCADA failures, comm loss, and data inconsistencies
Perform firmware updates, patching, and system maintenance
Support outage response and emergency troubleshooting as needed
Documentation
Maintain network diagrams, configs, and as-builts
Document testing and commissioning activities
Ensure compliance with utility and cybersecurity standards
Required Qualifications
3 - 7+ years in SCADA, substation automation, or industrial controls
Experience with RTUs, PLCs, and IED integration
Working knowledge of utility substation environments (T&D)
Familiarity with DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850
Ability to read electrical schematics and network diagrams
Valid driver’s license with regional travel capability
Preferred Qualifications
Utility or infrastructure project experience
Background in relay testing, commissioning, or power systems
Networking experience (managed switches, VLANs, cybersecurity basics)
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience with SEL, GE, Siemens, or similar platforms
