CONTRACT RELAY TECHNICIAN

Location: Georgia | Statewide Field Assignments

Compensation: $70 - $80 per hour, all-inclusive

Job Type: Long-Term Contract

Anticipated Start: September 2026

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is seeking an experienced Contract Relay Technician to support transmission and distribution substation projects throughout Georgia. This technician will join a two-person field testing team and work as a fully dedicated member of the client’s augmented staff.

Candidates must currently live in Georgia or within reasonable proximity in Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, or Tennessee. Regular travel throughout the Georgia service territory is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform testing and routine maintenance on transmission and distribution substation relaying and control equipment

• Test and calibrate electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relays

• Apply settings to protective relays

• Program load tap changer and voltage regulator controllers

• Perform panel and equipment checkout

• Troubleshoot and repair relaying and control equipment in distribution substations

• Interpret wiring diagrams, elementary diagrams, schematics, and protection and control drawings

• Use relay test equipment, software, tools, and test wiring safely and effectively

• Plan and complete testing activities efficiently without unnecessary service interruptions

• Support commissioning and testing assignments throughout Georgia

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Electrical Technology or Associate of Electrical Technology degree

• Minimum two years of field experience involving commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repair

• Understanding of three-phase power systems and protection and control schemes

• Experience using relay test equipment and associated software

• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams

• Ability to travel throughout Georgia based on project requirements

• Must be available for an anticipated September 2026 start

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• SCADA systems

• Fault data and sequence-of-events recording

• Integration and automation equipment installation and testing

• Distribution substation commissioning
